“Iran’s four-article plan to help resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria has been prepared within the framework of the previously-mentioned principles and is being updated,” Afkham reiterated on Tuesday.
She went on to say that “the plan will be put forth after consultations with the Syrian government and other influential players.”
The plan is scheduled to be discussed during the ongoing regional tour of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Afkham noted.
Zarif on Tuesday started a new tour of regional countries by visiting Lebanon. He is also due to visit a number of other states, including Syria, Pakistan and Russia.
Last year, Iran proposed a four-article plan for finding a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria, which was welcomed by the UN. Iranian officials say that plan is now being updated.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011. In the past four years, more than 200,000 people have died in Syria – overwhelmingly civilians – and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Another 7.6 million are displaced inside Syria.
