Pakistani Interior Minister Underlines Cooperation with Iran on Border Controls

Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that the existing friendly ties between Iran and his country have positively influenced the trend of control over the two countries’ shared borders, and called for further cooperation between the two countries’ border control units.

Malik said that border control management was vital on the Pakistan-Iran border areas.

During a meeting with Chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi, he said that the Pakistani government has recently approved a security accord with Iran on improving border controls.

Iran has always enjoyed very close and intimate relations with Pakistan throughout the history.

The two countries exchange delegations on a regular basis and their leaders are resolved to further accelerate expansion of ties and cooperation.

In mid-November, Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar reiterated the need for increasing security along borders with Pakistan in a move to toughen confrontation against drug trafficking and enhance the safety of Pakistani pilgrims coming to visit Iran’s Holy Muslim shrines.

Speaking at a meeting with Malik and on the sidelines of a regional anti-narcotics conference in Islamabad, the Iranian minister said that “intelligence cooperation between the two countries will play an important role in increasing border security against drug trafficking…”
