Almost no US threat against Iran practical: Larijani

Iran’s Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani says the United States has always posed threats against the Islamic Republic, almost none of which is practical.

“When George W. Bush was the US president, Iran received information through different ways about their [Americans] intention to attack Iran. But did they carry out any attack? 99 percent of the US threats have not been practical,” said Larijani on Thursday.

He added that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton occasionally makes tough statements about Iran “but no one pays attention to them,” Larijani said.

No one heeds the US officials’ threats because they make such remarks to undermine countries, the speaker pointed out.

Great Satan US, Zionist Slaughterer Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Washington and Tel Aviv have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the “option” of a military strike on Iran’s nuclear installations in an attempt to force the Islamic Republic to halt its atomic energy program, which has been closely monitored by inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Iran has strongly rejected the Western publicity campaign that its nuclear program may be diverted to military objectives, while insisting that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it is entitled to pursue nuclear technology for its numerous civilian purposes.
