Ahmadinejad leaves NY for Tehran

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has left New York for Tehran, wrapping up a busy trip to the United States which featured an array of key events.

The President arrived in New York on September 18 at the head of a delegation to attend the 65th United Nations’ General Assembly.

In his address to the UN, he said the US took advantage of the ‘suspicious’ September 11 attacks to justify its occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, reported IRNA.

The Iranian president added the US-led ‘war on terror’ has caused a number of civilian and military deaths in the two countries.

Ahmadinejad also addressed the UN Millennium Development Goals Summit where he called on world powers to abandon their undemocratic decisions.

He further highlighted that the ‘restoration of justice’ in the world requires ‘honest management,’ echoing his earlier calls on the UN to allow nations to play a more active role in global affairs.

The Iranian president’s tightly-scheduled trip also featured a host of meetings with leaders and senior officials from different countries, including Somalia, Zimbabwe, Lebanon, Tajikistan and Sudan.

The president also met with Iranian expatriates in the US as well as American elite, academics and religious groups.

Among the highlights of his visit were his interviews with media and numerous news conferences. President Ahmadinejad’s remarks resonated among political circles across the globe and received extensive coverage.
