Netherlands authorities arrested a 19-year-old woman suspected of recruiting extremists in Netherlands to fight alongside the armed terrorist groups in Syria.

Spokeswoman for the Public Prosecutor’s office in The Hague, Nicolette Stoel, said in a statement that the young woman was arrested and has been remanded for two weeks while an investigation is underway.

She added that a broad investigation is being conducted on recruiting young men by extremists to send them to fight in Syria.

Police arrested the woman in the city of Zoetermeer to the east of The Hague on Wednesday after families filed complaints with the authorities that their relatives had gone to fight in Syria.

The young woman will remain behind bars before a judge must decide whether the case against her can go ahead.

However, several media reports said that hundreds of Europeans infiltrated into Syria during the last few months to join the armed terrorist groups there.
