Al-Shabab decapitates 2 policewomen in southeastern Somalia

Al-Shabab Takfiri militants have decapitated two policewomen in southeastern Somalia.

Somali security sources said on Wednesday that the bodies of the two victims were found in the southeastern town of Tayeglow a day after they were kidnapped from their houses.

“We wanted to negotiate the release of the Somali policewomen but unfortunately they were beheaded,” said Tayeglow district commissioner Mohamed Abdallah.

In an act of reprisal, a Somali policeman, husband to one of the victims, killed five women who were under arrest over charges of cooperating with al-Shabab Takfiri terrorists.

“While our officers were taking them to the station, one of our soldiers opened fire, killing all five,” said Somali’s National Security Ministry spokesman Mohamed Osman.

The town of Tayeglow, located in the Bakool region of Somalia, has recently been captured from al-Shabab militants by the government forces and African Union peacekeepers.

Somalia has been the scene of clashes between government forces and al-Shabab militants since 2006.

The militants have been pushed out of the Somali capital, Mogadishu, and other major cities in the country by government forces and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) which is made up of troops from Ethiopia, Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, Sierra Leone, and Kenya.
