American Awakening- 99-percenters organizing May Day nationwide strike

Thousands of 99-percenters across the United States are organizing a coordinated general strike for May Day to protest against corporate greed and economic inequalities.

The Occupy Wall Street organizers say they are planning to hold hundreds of rallies, strikes, and sit-ins in 120 cities on Tuesday to draw attention to economic disparity in the United States.

May Day protesters from New York labor unions, immigrants’ rights groups, and others are expected to march from Union Square to Wall Street for “A Day without the 99 Percent.”

Other large actions are planned for the West Coast, including a big march in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Occupy DC activists are organizing a protest demonstration at Washington’s Meridian Hill Park, which is also known unofficially as Malcolm X Park, on Tuesday afternoon, followed by a march from the park to the White House.

The Occupy Wall Street activists are calling Tuesday their “coming out party” and the start of their spring resurgence, after the cold weather and evictions obliged many to stay home over the winter.

The Occupy Wall Street movement began when a group of demonstrators gathered in New York’s financial district on September 17, 2011 to protest against corruption, the unjust distribution of wealth in the country, and the excessive influence of big corporations on US policies.
