UFree condemns Israeli medical negligence policy toward prisoners

images_News_2013_11_06_turabi-family_300_0UFree Network to defend the rights of Palestinian prisoners strongly condemned the Israeli occupation prison authorities for its medical negligence which resulted in the death of Palestinian prisoner Hassan Al Torabi due to his illness with cancer, bringing the number of Palestinian prisoners who died in Israeli jails to 205.

Al Torabi was detained since the 1st of January 2013 regardless of his severe health condition where he suffered cancer.

UFree Network denounced the international community’s silence towards the Israeli crimes against Palestinian prisoners and detainees on a daily basis, pointing out that 1600 patient prisoners are being held in Israeli occupation jails including 25 with cancer.

The Oslo based network called on the contracting parties of the Fourth Geneva Convention to intervene immediately to put an end to Israeli violations against prisoners and to work for their release.

Meanwhile, a state of high tension has prevailed in Israeli jails after the Israeli Prison Services (IPS) declared a high alert to suppress the prisoners’ protests following the death of prisoner al-Torabi’s.

In Raymond prison, the prisoners refused their meals protesting the martyrdom of a patient prisoner due to the Israeli medical negligence policy.

In turn, IPS repression units stormed the prisoners’ sections and rooms, where they assaulted and brutally beat the protesting prisoners, causing different injuries among them.

In Nafha prison, Palestinian prisoners declared a hunger strike for three days, threatening to escalate their protest steps in coordination with the rest of prisons in response to the crime.

In Megiddo prison, more than 20 prisoners were injured after Israeli repression units stormed the prison and assaulted the prisoners in response to their protests declared following the martyrdom of their colleague.

The Captive Movement has confirmed that Palestinian prisoners in all Israeli jails have refused their meals today, while the lawyers have boycotted Israeli courts on Tuesday protesting the death of the patient prisoner al-Torabi and the Israeli deliberate medical negligence.
