Arba’een: scene of sacrifice, devotion

Millions of pilgrims from all over the world converged in the holy city of Kerbala for the Arba’een religious commemoration which is held annually in Iraq.

It is the 40th day after the martyrdom of Prophet Mohammad’s grandson, Hussein ibn Ali. For many Iraqis, the care of pilgrims is regarded as a religious duty. The event has become a powerful display of solidarity and devotion among Muslims.
