Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi meets with Grand Mufti of Syria

In a meeting with Shaykh Badreddin Hassoun, the Grand Mufti of Syria, and his accompanying delegation, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi expressed his pleasure regarding the meeting and also expressed his hope that with the defeat of the Takfiri groups and their supporters, a better and brighter future will await Syrian people.

Referring to the danger posed by the Takfiri groups to the entire Muslim world, His Eminence stated that the complete eradication of this danger is possible only through intellectual and scientific confrontation with the Takfiri ideology and that this requires a more active role to be played by mass media in this regard.

To this end, he also considered as essential the establishment of a television channel in which scientific critiques of Takfiri ideology are broadcast. He also promised to cooperate with that television channel, whenever it is established.

In this meeting, His Eminence also queried about the conditions of war-torn areas in Syria, including the four Shi’a regions under siege by the enemies. In response, Shaykh Hassoun expressed his hope that these areas will be liberated completely by the Syrian armed forces within a few weeks. He also praised the high morals of the people of these regions, who still refuse to surrender or leave these areas despite being under siege by the enemies for over three years.

Further, the Grand Mufti of Syria also appreciated Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi for the organization of the World Congress on Extremist and Takfiri Movements last year, and stated: “What brings me here today is your invaluable scientific works and as well as your other services to the Muslim world, and in particular your attempt to confront the dangerous Takfiri movements.”

He also asked His Eminence to always pray from him and the Syrian people and government.

At the end of the meeting, the Syrian guests were presented with some gifts from His Eminence.
