Israel mulls apologizing to Turkey over deadly 2010 attack on Gaza flotilla

mazimi20130223091237897The Israeli regime is reportedly considering a partial apology to Turkey over the 2010 killing of nine Turkish activists on a flotilla aid headed to Gaza.

Turkish newspaper Radikal said recently that secret meetings have been held between Israeli and Turkish officials and Tel Aviv may apologize for “operational errors” during the fatal raid.

The measure, if taken, comes days before US President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Israel for the first time since taking office in 2009. Obama has called for reconciliation between the Middle Eastern allies of Washington.

Turkey severed all ties with Israel following the attack, setting an official apology, paying compensation to the families of the victims and ending the blockade of the Gaza Strip as preconditions for the normalization of relations with the Israeli regime.

Israel has also expressed readiness to meet the second condition, offering compensation, the report said, adding that Turkey has decided to overlook the third condition.

The Turkish newspaper quoted an unnamed Turkish diplomat as saying that ‘’It does not seem likely that any step will be taken before the new Israeli government is formed and an official position adopted.”
