Bahrain’s Al-Wefaq Denounces Jail Verdict against Muslim Cleric

Prominent opposition group in Bahrain denounced on Thursday jail verdict against Shiite cleric Sheikh Hamza Al-Dairy.

Al-Dairy was arrested after an appeals court upheld a verdict against him, over expressing support with the highest religious authority in Bahrain Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Qassem.

“The arrest of Sheikh Dairy is a wide and systematic scheme aimed against Shiite community in Bahrain,” the opposition group said.

Al-Wefaq called on international community to put an end to this scheme and press the Bahraini government in a bid to release the arrested cleric.
