Bomb blast kills US-led trooper in western Afghanistan

Another US-led foreign soldier in Afghanistan has been killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) in the west of the country.

NATO announced the latest death on Friday, but refused to reveal the nationality of the soldier.

On Thursday, a US soldier was killed in an attack in eastern Afghanistan.

Since the start of the US-led invasion in 2001, more than 3,250 foreign troops, mostly American, have been killed in Afghanistan.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed Taliban militants from power, but plunged the country into a prolonged tug of war, with Afghan civilians paying the toll.

The decade-long conflict has also seen a surge in attacks on foreign troops in recent months. Around 300 foreign soldiers were killed in the war-torn country in 2012 alone.

The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread public anger in the US and other NATO member states.
