Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Wednesday that Takfiri terrorist groups try to sow discords among nations to attain their sinister goals.

Rafsanjani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri.

He said that security is the most important needs of the region.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani criticized the divide among the Islamic governments and said under such circumstances the Takfiri groups gain grounds to commit crimes in Pakistan, the Philippines and Yemen.

He regretted that extremism has developed in Islamic countries and the Muslim nations have been trapped by the extremism.

It seems Takfiri groups are to foment insecurity and discords to urge people back to the era of despotism and colonialism, he said.

Rafsanjani said that magnificent religious demonstration took place in Iraq on the occasion of Arbaeen, lauding the admirable performance of the Iraqi government.

He said that the glory of Arbaeen in Iraq has bewildered the enemies that over 17 million shia Muslims from different Islamic countries gathered in Iraq in defiance of the threats posed by the Daesh terrorist group.

The religious and cultural affinities and the common grounds in history and civilization have brought the two nations much closer, he said.

‘We are happy to witness that the Iraqi government endeavors to bring welfare to the Iraqi nation who are among most oppressed people in the region,’ he said.

Use of violence is now outdated and the best global decisions are taken through political dialogue, he said.

The Iraqi parliament speaker, for his part, expressed the hope that the country’s challenges to be resolved through political means.

Terrorism has frightened people leaving negative impacts on social life, he said.

Political and security conflicts in the region left negative impacts on the economic life of people in many countries of the world, he said.

He thanked the support and cooperation of Iranian government and its nation with Iraqi people which help bolster relations between the two countries.

He expressed the hope to welcome once again Rafsanjani in Iraq.
