Iran to Hold Int’l Eurasia Conference in Days

Tehran is slated to host an international conference on ‘Iran and Regional Cooperation in Eurasia’ on Monday.

The participants in the conference, which kicks off on Monday, will discuss issues pertaining to the Eurasia region at the three levels of security, economic and political cooperation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Vice-Chairman of the Russian State Duma Nikolay Levichev and Head of Iran-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group Mehdi Sanayee are due to address the opening ceremony of the conference.

Sanayee said that experts from Iran, China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kazakhstan are slated to attend the two-day conference.

In relevant remarks earlier, Sanayee had stressed Iran’s major role in the Eurasia region, underlining that Iran’s role cannot be denied given its special position in Eurasia.

Undoubtedly, Iran is a major regional power and plays a key role in Eurasia, Sanayee said at a round table on ‘Iran’s role in Eurasia’s geopolitics and geo-economy’ held at Eurasia Research Center (IRAS) here in Tehran in May 2010.

He underlined that Iran’s strategic role in the Eurasia region needs activation of cultural, historical, communication potentials and huge investments in the oil and gas sectors as well as an increase in exchanges with the Eurasian states.

Sanayee cited Iran’s geopolitical and geo-economic situation, religious ideology and energy as the three main factors contributing to Tehran’s influence in area of foreign policy affairs.
