Brutal US police arrest two Occupy anti-capitalism protesters

Police in the United States have arrested two anti-capitalism protesters in North Carolina’s capital city, Raleigh, as the Occupy movement in the city was marking its 100th-day anniversary.

Police arrested 25-year-old Nicholas Alan Warren Johnson and 33-year-old John Christopher Pearson during the Sunday protests.

On the first day of the Occupy Raleigh protests in October 20, 2011, 20 protesters were arrested outside the State Capitol for refusing to leave the sidewalk in front of the building.

The protesters later relocated their camp to a nearby street due to mounting pressure from the police.

The protesters in Raleigh have stressed their determination to continue resistance despite violent clampdowns, saying they stand firm to raise awareness about what they call the death of the founding principles of their nation.

The spreading Occupy movement emerged after a group of demonstrators gathered in New York’s financial district on September 17, 2011 to protest the unjust distribution of wealth in the country and the excessive influence of big corporations on US policies.

Despite police crackdowns and mass arrests, the Occupy movement, which grew out of the Occupy Wall Street movement, has now spread to many major US cities as well as to Australia, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Portugal and other countries.
