Palestinian shot dead in East al-Quds

A Palestinian has been shot dead by an Israeli guard in the occupied city of al-Quds (Jerusalem) amid clashes between Israeli settlers and Palestinians.

Residents identified the victim as Samer Sarhan, 32, according to Associated Press.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when an Israeli guard opened fire on Palestinians in the volatile Silwan neighborhood during a clash between Israeli settlers and Palestinians who threw rocks at each other.

Two other Palestinians were also wounded in the shooting.

Israel occupied East al-Quds along with the West Bank during the Six-Day war of 1967 and later annexed it in the face of opposition from the international community which has refused to recognize the move to date.

Palestinians have long been demanding the occupied city as the capital of their future Palestinian state.
