In another US school shooting 9th grade student shoots himself dead

A 15-year-old US student shot himself dead at an Oklahoma middle school as the wave of shooting incidents in American learning centers continue unabated with no gun-control legislation in site.

Local police authorities in the city of Coweta, near Tulsa, confirmed the apparent shooting suicide of a 9th grader at the Coweta Intermediate School on Monday.

Authorities would not release any further details on the incident, the victim and the possible motive for his action except saying that only the school’s “9th grade center” would be closed for the day and all 9th graders sent home.

Following the report of the shooting, the entire school went on a lockdown and there was no report of further harm or injuries.

The incident occurred nearly two month after an elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut killed 20 small children and six school staff members.

Despite repeated pledges of US lawmakers of the need to enact stricter gun-control measures in the country, no real action is in the offing as the country and many of its lawmakers remain deeply divided on any measures to further restrict gun possession in the United States.

Meanwhile, it was revealed on Saturday that shooting is a hobby of US President Barack Obama as he admitted to going shooting “all the time.” The news came as Obama was to begin a nationwide campaign in support of more legal efforts to enforce background checks and restrict gun purchases.
