US has no regard for international law

Senior Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi says the US always acts according to its own interests with no regard for international laws.

“The Americans always act according to their interests and the international law is not important to them,” the chairman of Iran’s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said on Sunday.

“When they (Americans) feel that the policy of confrontation benefits them, they might continue this approach,” Boroujerdi added.

“If the Americans think that they can halt Iran’s peaceful [nuclear] activities by mounting pressure, they are beating the air,” the Iranian lawmaker said.

“Iran will continue developing its peaceful nuclear energy program based on the regulations of the agency (the International Atomic Energy Agency – the IAEA) and within the framework of peaceful objectives,” Boroujerdi said.

The US, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Using the unfounded allegation as pretext, the US and its European allies have imposed unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Iran rejects the allegation, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the IAEA, it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
