China’s Communist Party set to choose new leaders

China’s Communist Party is set to choose new leaders during a once-in-a-decade leadership transition congress in Beijing.

The 18th congress will kick off on Thursday as the populace has supported the performance of the Communist Party and China’s political leadership so far. The support is rooted in the people having been provided with more comfort at home and the country’s pride in the international community having been restored.

The party has decided to pass age limit law to cause older leaders to leave their posts, occasioning the retirement of thousands of party and government officials in the current month.

Nine members of the party’s political office will also be changed in the upcoming congress.

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping is expected to be elected the next leader of the emerging power at the end of the congress.

There are no signs that the new leaders are seeking to change the political structure of the country.

The party will use the highly-orchestrated event, attended by the congress’ 2,270 delegates, to persuade the nation’s 1.3 billion people that it can secure another 10 years of economic growth and social stability.
