Afghans hold anti-US rally in Kabul

Hundreds of Afghans have held an anti-US protest in Kabul to denounce a plan by a church in the US to burn Islam’s holy book of Qur’an on the anniversary of September 11, 2001 attacks.

Some members of parliament, provincial council deputies, and clerics addressed the crowd.

The protesters began throwing rocks at a passing US military convoy at the site of the demonstration.

They also chanted slogans against US President Barack Obama and other American leaders.

“We know this is not just the decision of a church. It is the decision of the president and the entire United States,” the Associated Press quoted a participant as saying.

They also criticized the US and demanded the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.

The Evangelical church based in Florida has announced plans to burn copies of the Qur’an on church grounds to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 events.

The church also distributed T-shirts bearing anti-Islamic slogans last year.
