Cooperating with Iran a priority for Rome: Italian MP

President of the Foreigner and European affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies Marta Grande says cooperating with Iran in West Asia is certainly one of the priorities for the Italian government.

In a meeting with visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for political affairs Abbas Araqchi, Grande said Europe is determined to work with Iran within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the wake of the US exit from the deal.

She also said that European states were working on the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for financial interactions with Iran.

Grande pointed out that the JCPOA was not just an agreement between Iran and the United States or between Iran and the G5+1 but rather an international deal manifesting the will of the United Nations Security Council.

During his one day visit to Italy, besides a working breakfast with Italian reporters and researchers, Araqchi also met with the Italian foreign ministry secretary general, president of the foreign affairs committee of the Senate and the Vatican foreign minister, briefing them on Iran’s stands on the JCPOA and situation around cooperation with Europe and Italy.
