Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah forces and allied army units have successfully captured a reconnaissance drone in territories south of Saudi Arabia, reports say.

Yemen’s al-Masirah TV said Monday that the drone was brought down while flying over a gathering of the allied forces in the southern Saudi province of Jizan.

The report said “technical teams” in the army and the popular committees managed to capture the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and brought it down on the ground undamaged.

The incident came a few days after Yemeni forces claimed they had shot down another Saudi UAV in Laudar district in Yemen’s central province of al-Bayda.

According to Ansarullah, Saudis routinely dispatch drones to various parts of Yemen, as well as locations in south of the kingdom, to gain updated information on the movement of the allied Yemeni forces. They say the data could boost Riyadh’s ability to target Yemenis and block their advance as part of Riyadh’s ongoing air campaign against the country.

Yemenis say they have killed dozens of Saudi military forces in a series of retaliatory attacks they have carried out in Saudi provinces of Jizan and Najran. They have also destroyed several pieces of Saudi military hardware and captured some territories in the region.

Riyadh’s all-out air campaign against Yemen, which is in its sixth month, is an attempt to undermine Ansarullah and to restore power to fugitive former Lebanese President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Saudi Arabia.

Yemeni sources say more than five thousand people have lost their lives while a million more have been displaced as a result of the aggression on the Arab world’s poorest nation.
