Defense Secretary: Iran Offers to Assist Syria with Defense Infrastructure Development

Iran's Defense Minister has declared that Tehran is prepared to help Syria with the rebuilding process and the development of its defense infrastructure once the conflict has ended.

Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani declared on Wednesday that Iran’s Defense Ministry is willing to assist Syria in reconstructing and advancing its defense sector in the post-conflict period, due to the support they provided to the Syrian military during the combat against terrorism.

At a meeting in Tehran, General Abdul Karim Mahmoud Ibrahim, the Chief of the General Staff of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces, was addressed by Ashtiani.

He emphasized the importance of establishing a joint defense-technical cooperation commission with Syria.

The Iranian defense minister highlighted that the Tehran-Damascus ties are currently at their peak due to a strategic, but even more importantly, a brotherly agreement between them.

Ashtiani commented on Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi’s remarkable trip to Syria last week, confirming that the agreements made and topics discussed during the visit are currently being monitored.

He remarked that the Syrian people’s backing of their government and the non-compliance of a multitude of nations to the United States’ unilateral regulations demonstrate the declining might of global haughtiness.

He stated that the recognition by countries in the region of the importance of Syria’s part in regional developments shows the strength of Syria and its success in defeating the US and Israeli plot.

The Arab League, an intergovernmental organization of 22 Arab states, agreed on Sunday to reinstate Syria into their membership after a decade of suspension. This move is part of a larger effort to restore diplomatic relations with President Bashar al-Assad’s government.

At the quadrilateral meeting on Wednesday in Moscow between the Iranian, Syrian, Turkish, and Russian diplomats, Ashtiani pointed out that the Islamic Republic has consistently emphasized certain principles at various summits, including the removal of all occupying forces from Syria, the elimination of terrorists, and the respect for Syria’s national sovereignty by the government of Damascus.

Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the Iranian government and nation have been commended by Ibrahim for their immense support of Syria.

He stated that Syria’s current condition is a result of the collective efforts and resoluteness of both countries when taking on terrorism and keeping the malicious plague from spreading throughout the region and all over the globe. Syria will never forget the help and collaboration of its genuine allies.

The Syrian general implored for an upgrade of the Iran-Syria relationship in all areas, particularly the military and defense fields.

Following the 2011 outbreak of foreign-backed violence in Syria, Iran was the first country to come to its aid. In 2017, the Islamic Republic’s military advisory assistance was instrumental in helping the Arab nation achieve a monumental victory over the Daesh terrorist group.
