Deir Ezzor: The Syrian Army Conducts a Number of Operations Around the City

The Syrian Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard (Harss Al-Jamhouri) conducted a series of raids on Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) strongholds in the Jubeileh, Al-Haweeqa, Al-‘Arfa, Al-Sina’a, and Al-Rasaafa Quarters of Deir Ezzor City, killing a number of militants and destroying multiple vehicles in the process.

At the Old Airport District (Al-Mataar Al-Qadeem) in the provincial capital, the 104th Brigade unearthed a 15 meter long tunnel used by ISIS to store supplies needed to distribute to their militants combatting the Syrian Army. The 104th Brigade discovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and first aid kits stored in this tunnel before it was destroyed the army.

Earlier today, ISIS attempted to besiege the 137th Brigade’s garrison on Mount Al-Shardeh (Jabal Al-Shardeh), resulting in their subsequent withdrawal east of the mountain in order to regroup. The 137th Brigade of the 17th Division is in control of 3 square kilometers east of territory surrounding Jabal Al-Shardeh. If the 137th Brigade can continue to withstand the ISIS assault; this could prove to a decisive defeat for the latter.

The leader of Liwaa Ahfaad Mohammad Saabaqa, Ghanaam Al-Kurdi (AKA “Abu Rasheed) has given bayah (payment or commitment) to the self-proclaimed Caliph of the “Islamic State,” Sheikh Ibrahim Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi. Al-Kurdi was famous for his brigade’s resistance against the ISIS fighters attempting to overthrow his security forces in the Deir Ezzor city of Mouhassan.

Brigadier General Issam Zahreddine’s 104th Brigade continued their success on Sakr Island (Hajeewa Sakr), killing a large number of militants from ISIS, while also destroying 9 vehicles near the Eastern Bank Fisheries. Among the dead fighters from ISIS were 2 foreigners identified as “Abu ‘Abdel-Rahman Bakr of Jordan, and Adham Mohammad ‘Ali of Egypt.
