Iran to unveil five new radiopharmaceuticals

amiri20130407121421210An Iranian vice-president says Iran is to unveil five radiopharmaceuticals developed by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).

Nasrin Soltankhah, vice-president for science and technology, said on Sunday that five radiopharmaceuticals, developed by the AEOI to help the diagnosis and treatment of intractable diseases particularly cancer, will be unveiled before the end of the current [Iranian calendar] month on April 20.

She added that Iran’s Health Ministry has contributed to the domestic production of eight medicines Iran previously imported.

Due to US-led restrictions on Iran’s banking and financial sectors, the Islamic Republic cannot buy medications for its cancer patients.

Iranian health authorities say the illegal unilateral sanctions, led by the US and the European Union, have made it impossible to obtain medications needed for some diseases.

A transplant surgeon recently told Press TV that the US-engineered sanctions against the Islamic Republic have caused a shortage of medicines in Iran, endangering the lives of many patients.

Millions of patients, suffering from diseases such as diabetes, kidney failure, hemophilia, multiple sclerosis, thalassemia, and leukemia, are affected by the sanctions.
