First int’l congress on Islamic Humanities

An international conference started work in Tehran Sunday morning to discuss the epistemological and methodological pitfalls of western humanities and social sciences as well as the available intellectual assets in Islam and the Holy Koran, as the sole purely-protected Godly revelations, for rebuilding and reengineering the sciences.

The conference, starting work in the IRIB International Conference Hall, will have several panel discussions where prominent intellectuals from home and abroad are scheduled to examine the existing humanities and social sciences as well as the nature and features of Islamic humanities.

Foundations (ontological, epistemological and anthropological) of and approaches to the prospective Islamic humanities are also on agenda of the conference.

The conference is expected to be a point of departure for an international drive for reengineering humanities and social sciences anew.

Some 406 articles have been contributed to the conference of which 62 articles will be published in the proceedings. 30 top papers will be read out and discussed in the panel discussions.

A sum-up session too will be held in English next month in Qom, a scholarly city two-hour drive from Tehran.

Several scholars from India, Malaysia, Palestine, Pakistan, Lebanon, and Turkey will speak to the conference.
