Egypt and Iran can change ‘regional balance’: Ahmadinejad

On his first official visit to Egypt, Iran’s president says Tehran and Cairo can change the balance of power, and geopolitical of the region if they want to.
In an interview with Al-Mayadeen Network, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad explained Iran’s position in Syria and Iraq, and stressed on the importance of strategic relations with Egypt.

He pointed to Iran’s achievements in different fields, and asserted that purpose of Iran’s Revolution was not for supremacy of one group over the others, but to fulfill the demands of its people. “If Iran and Egypt takes similar position on Palestinian issue, they could change the regional geopolitics,” he added.

On the brink of the first Presidential visit to Egypt after Islamic Republic revolution, Ahmadinejad said that these two countries could change the balance of power, and if they agree to completely free Palestine, it could really happen.

He added that “Iran does not interfere with internal affair of any country in the region.

Tehran’s position on Syrian crisis is that Syrian people are the ones who should decide the future of their own county through elections, held in stable and secure conditions.” And “This is Syrian people’s right to choose who should stay and who should go, and we should do our best for this agreement to happen,” Ahmadinejad said.

“War is not a solution in Syria, and Syrians should solve their problem through national agreement,” he added. “Imperialism wants to disintegrate countries of the region.”

President asserted that Western with the cooperation of some regional countries have long been working to disintegrate Iraq.

Ahmadinejad called on Iraqi people to protect their country by unity among each others. And stressed that Tehran would do its out-most to reduce tensions in Iraq, and would contact all groups to bring unity between them.

“Shiite-Sunni discord is a new conspiracy plan by Imperialists. If Egypt and Saudi Arabia encounter any aggression, we will stand by them, as we have done before for other nations,” he continued.

“Supporting Palestine is pivotal to Islamic Republic of Iran’s strategic approach, and through the years after the revolution, humanitarian aid have been collected for Palestinians on Friday Prayers for years now,” he said.

Ahmadinejad welcomed visit by Mahmoud Abbas, the president of Palestinian Authority, to Iran, saying that he wished he had said prayer in al-Quads and Gaza after being fully freed.

Ahmadinejad in response to the US offer for direct talks said; “direct talk with the US needs leveled and fair playing ground, not imposing one’s own
conditions.”
