Egypt-Iran relations should be improved; Salehi’s meeting pleasing

Khalid Ammarah said that Egyptian government was happy for the Iranian Foreign Minister visit to Cairo in the present dire situations and this was important in terms of regional issues and mutual ties, and believed that Iran-Egypt relations have grown rapidly.

Youm 7 quoted the Head of the Egypt’s Interest Section in Tehran saying that “Cases of regional developments and recent revolutions in the Arab countries are among the important issues to be discussed.”

He added that the role of great countries in solving regional problems was important and the plan proposed by Egypt on the Syrian crisis was in the same trend and Iran played a key role as an important country in resolving the crisis.

“Great countries such as Iran and Egypt cannot remain deaf to the Syrian crisis. A regional effort is needed to contain the implications of the crisis across the region,” asserted Ammarah.

Head of Egypt’s Interests Section in Tehran added that “it is necessary to find approaches in agreement with the demands of the Syrian people and keep the crisis consequences for the region at bay.”

He also commented on potential problems on the way of the two countries’ cooperation, and said that “despite frequent fluctuations in Tehran-Cairo relations due to great changes in the region, the two sides must, based on mutual understanding, find ways to solve regional problems and strive toward strengthening mutual ties, something that will bring great rewards to both nations.”

Khalid Ammarah also said that both sides launched attempts to bring about favorable situation for a return to strong Tehran-Cairo ties. “Different panels will be dispatched from Cairo to Tehran and official visits from Iran to Cairo are held at top levels,” he added.
