Egypt President’s family flee to London

The wife of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his son Gamal Mubarak have flown to London with over 100 suitcases following the bloody protests in Egypt.

According to an Arab website, Gamal Mubarak who has been planned to become Hosni Mubarak’s successor has fled from Egypt with his mother Suzanne by a private jet as the Egyptian Defense Minister earlier flew to the US.

A flurry of messages on the public networking website, Twitter, have confirmed that the private jet carrying Gamal Mubarak and his mother has landed at Heathrow Airport in London.

It is also reported that the plane has taken Gamal Mubarak’s daughter to Britain.

Mubarak’s family has fled from Egypt in the midst of ongoing massive anti-government demonstrations by the Egyptians.

The political tensions were triggered as thousands of protesters poured to the streets across different cities in Egypt asking for the resignation of Mubarak.

The Tunisian uprising, which began last December and toppled the country’s president this month, has changed the Egyptians’ political standpoint.

Since Tuesday, tens of thousands of Egyptian protesters have been chanting anti-government slogans including “the people want to bring down the government!” “Revolution!” “Revolution in Tunis and revolution in Egypt – Mubarak Out!”

This comes as according to a western political website, Egyptian Defense Minister Hussein Tantawi is now in Washington to have a number of secret meetings with the US officials on the issue.
