At a recent meeting with his Syrian counterpart, Lieutenant General Ali Mahmoud Abbas, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami Ashtiani highlighted Iran’s longstanding support for the Syrian military in its fight against terrorist groups in Syria.

Iran’s defense minister declared that the ministry, in conjunction with other economic and civil sectors, is ready to initiate, fabricate, and provide the Syrian Armed Forces with the most up-to-date protective armaments.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to collaborate with the Syrian Arab Republic in constructing factories and initiating production lines for strategic defense products, with the aim of raising the security for the Syrian people, and to develop a multilateral defense infrastructure and enhance the nation’s weapons strength.

Ashtiani emphasized how essential it is for any nation to rely on its own power, noting that Iran’s Defense Ministry has been successful in achieving great power in various areas such as land, sea, air, aerospace, and electronics. He also emphasized the ministry’s role in combating terrorism and supporting oppressed nations.

The Syrian defense minister emphasized that the security and stability of Syria has been achieved through the aid of Iran and its allies. He added that strengthening Syria’s defense capabilities will make it more ready to combat terrorism as a member of the Resistance Axis.

Abbas expressed his gratitude for the Iranian Defense Ministry’s assistance in the area of defense diplomacy, emphasizing that “Despite their efforts, adversaries are unable to disrupt the strong bond between Iran and Syria, which is deepening each day for the purpose of advancing security and stability in the region.”

Last week, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi made a historic visit to Syria, the first by an Iranian president since the foreign-sponsored militancy began in the Arab country twelve years ago. Ashtiani was part of the delegation that accompanied Raeisi, which included a number of Iranian ministers and high-ranking officials.

In 2011, when the foreign-backed violence broke out in Syria, Iran was one of the first countries to offer aid. By 2017, with the military advisory assistance provided by the Islamic Republic, Syria was able to secure a major victory over the terrorist group Daesh.
