Enenmy of Islam Saudis hits Yemen as Yemenis agree on peace talks

Saudi Arabia has bombarded several areas across Yemen, as the United Nations says Yemeni parties have agreed to hold peace talks to end the conflict in the impoverished Arab country.

Saudi warplanes targeted several areas in and around the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, late on Thursday.

Reports say that in one of the airstrikes on the capital, the Saudi fighters hit the Yemeni military camp of al-Hafa. The force of the explosion caused by the airstrike discharged rockets and other weapons from the military camp toward a nearby neighborhood.

There has been no report of possible casualties in the airstrike.

The Saudi fighter jets also bombarded several areas in the southwestern province of Bayda. In one of the attacks, the Saudi jets targeted three fuel trucks in the district of Sawadiyah.

The Saudi warplanes targeted the headquarters of security forces in the southwestern province of Ibb and hit the presidential palace in Ta’izz Province.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia began its aggression against Yemen – without a UN mandate – in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to the country’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

According to the United Nations, the conflict has so far left about 4,500 people dead and thousands of others wounded. Local Yemeni sources, however, say the fatality figure is much higher.

Peace talks

Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the UN special envoy for Yemen, said on Thursday that the warring sides have agreed to take part in peace talks that “will convene in the region next week.”

The special envoy went on to say that the talks will center on “a ceasefire and the resumption of a peaceful political transition.”

He called on the warring parties “to engage constructively and in good faith” to reach an agreement, adding that the exact time and venue of the meeting will be announced in the coming days.
