Envoy: Terrorists Targeting Syria to Help US Objectives

Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Mahmoud underlined that the militants fighting against the Damascus government are serving the US interests.
“The terrorists have targeted the entire Syrian nation with objectives planned by the US, the western countries and their puppets in the region,” Mahmoud said in a meeting with the Representative of Assyrians and Chaldeans at the Iranian Parliament Yonatan Betkelia on Sunday.

Betkelia, for his part, sympathized with the Syrians over their unfavorable conditions, and expressed the hope that peace, security and calm would return to Syria.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government, along with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
