A political researcher believes the continued protests in Turkey are due to the stubbornness of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on considering himself as ‘absolute and undisputed Sultan of Turkey.’
In an interview with Al-Alam News Network on Friday, Hüsnü Mahalli, asked people of Turkey to break the barrier of fear, and not to return home. “Erdoğan thinks Turkish people are still with him,” he added.

“many journalists close to Erdoğan write that Erdoğan ‘stubbornness’ is due to his ‘pride’, and he thinks he could impose whatever he wants on the Turkish nation,” he said.

He reiterated: “the reconstruction is not the cause of the protest; rather the rough manner of police and public response has been the issue. Based on a university survey from the protesters in Taksim Square, About 9% of them in the recent elections had voted for Erdoğan.”

The researchers reiterated that “This issue proves that contrary to what Erdogan thinks, the protesters are not ‘agitators’, but now even the people who voted for him, are unhappy with his foreign and domestic policies particularly toward Syria.”

Hüsnü Mahalli said: “protests are not confined only to Taksim Square in Istanbul, but they have been spread to other cities, and it shows until Erdogan’s position did not change, people would not go back to their homes.”

Mahalli added: “But Erdoğan’s security policy may force people to return home, but what happened in Turkey, showed that the Turkish nation were able to break the wall of fear. Turkish people are not afraid of security forces, and tanks, since they have realized Erdoğan is dangerous for their daily lives, even for their freedom and democracy.”
