An Iranian prosecutor is assassinated by unknown assailants in the southeast of the country.

The prosecutor of the city of Zabol in the southeastern Sistan-and-Balochistan Province was gunned down in a terrorist attack on Wednesday, said Head of the provincial Justice Department Hojjatoleslam Ibrahim Hamidi.

Musa Noori and his driver were attacked and killed by unidentified terrorists on the way to work at 7.15 am local time (3.45 GMT), the provincial chief justice added.

Two gunmen sprayed Noori and his driver with bullets and fled the scene, the top judge further said.

“We are investigating the issue and do not have any specific information in that regard,” Hamidi added.

The attack comes less than two weeks after fourteen Iranian border guards lost their lives and six more were wounded in a shooting assault in the border region of Saravan in Sistan-and-Baluchestan on October 25.

The terrorist group of Jaish-ul-Adl, which claimed responsibility for the shooting, had infiltrated into Iran from Pakistan and fled back into Pakistani territory following the attack.

On October 26, Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Pakistan’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran Sohail Siddiqui in protest at the terrorist attack.

In February, Iran and Pakistan signed a security pact under which both countries are required to cooperate in preventing and combating organized crime, fighting terrorism and countering activities which pose a threat to the national security of either country.
