Pezeshkian highlights the importance of Muslim solidarity in combating extremism

In an official visit to Ashgabat on Friday, Pezeshkian delivered a statement during a ceremony marking the 300th birth anniversary of the esteemed 18th-century Turkmen poet and scholar, Magtymguly Pyragy.

Highlighting the concern over rising extremism within certain segments of the Islamic world, Pezeshkian emphasized the threat posed by groups whose ideology is rooted in the fragmentation of Islamic communities. He stated, “Figures of high repute, such as Magtymguly, advocate for the cohesion and solidarity of Islamic societies because they are acutely aware of the detrimental effects and challenges posed by discord.”

The call for unity extends beyond Islamic communities, emphasizing the global necessity for peace, strengthened brotherhood, and an inclusive dialogue aimed at building consensus, he stated. He further remarked that despite these goals, numerous unilateral actions persistently hinder the harmonious coexistence of human societies in this endeavor.

Emphasizing the significance of Islamic unity as a vital force in countering threats and preventing disunity, he stated that discord among Muslims serves only the interests of adversaries and must be addressed with empathy.

In a recent statement, Pezeshkian highlighted the unwavering emphasis within Islamic teachings on the importance of unity and the rejection of division. He articulated that by embracing the core tenets of Islam, societies can attain a foundation rooted in brotherhood and mutual understanding. Pezeshkian further asserted that fostering unity within the global community serves as a critical avenue in combating extremism and violence.

In another segment of his address, the Iranian president highlighted the prolonged offensive by the Israeli state against the blockaded Gaza Strip and Lebanon, describing the level of violence as beyond words.

Pezeshkian highlighted what he described as a display of unilateralism regarding the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the neglect of the rights of a nation with a distinct history and culture.

According to recent reports, the escalating crisis in Gaza, characterized by the ongoing disproportionate conflict, and the relentless assaults on Lebanon have reached an unprecedented level, defying adequate depiction.

Pezeshkian touched down in Turkmenistan on Thursday, where he was greeted by Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, along with the ambassador and officials from the Iranian Embassy in Ashgabat.

During the upcoming visit, the President of Iran is scheduled to hold talks with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan, as well as the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow. Additionally, a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is also on the agenda.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Culture Minister Abbas Salehi are among the officials accompanying the President on this visit.
