US in A Hurry to Reach Deal with Iran: Amirabdollahian

Deploring a contradiction between the US’ words and deeds, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said Washington is in a hurry to strike an agreement with Iran and has sent a message to Tehran.

Speaking to reporters in Yerevan on Saturday, the top Iranian diplomat pointed to the talks on lifting the sanctions on Tehran and reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Denouncing the contradiction between the US government’s words and deeds, Amirabdollahian said Iran has received a message from the US three days ago.

“We received a message from the American party. Even in the exchange of messages, the Americans are in a hurry for reaching the point of agreement as soon as possible,” he said.

“We have made it clear that the accusations that the (International Atomic Energy) Agency has leveled against Iran in the nuclear sphere must be settled. We would not agree to strike an agreement with the IAEA intending to constantly put pressures on the Islamic Republic of Iran from the political path, like a bone of contention,” the foreign minister added.

“Therefore, while the exchange of messages between the Americans and us are in progress, they (the US) are attempting to fan the flames of the issues that were taking place inside Iran in the past days,” Amirabdollahian stated.

“I think they (Americans) seek to put political and psychological pressures in order to win concessions in the negotiations. We will not make any concession to the US. We will move within the framework of logic and within the framework of an agreement in which the Islamic Republic’s red lines are observed. But at the same time, we won’t leave the negotiating table,” the senior diplomat underlined.

“Our assessment of the messages from the American side for us, even in the recent days, is that not only is it the priority of Americans (to reach a deal), but also they are in a hurry (to do so),” he added.

“They (Americans) speak differently when announcing their stances for the sake of their own domestic consumption and the provocation of a series of factors inside Iran. This is an example of the US’ behavioral paradox,” Amirabdollahian concluded.

Numerous rounds of negotiations between the signatories to the JCPOA have taken place in the Austrian capital since last year in order to explore the possibility of the agreement’s revival and the lifting of the unjustified economic sanctions.

The persistent refusal of Washington to abide by Iran’s red lines has caused numerous interruptions in the negotiations.

The European Union recently developed a draft proposal to resurrect the agreement, serving as the coordinator in the indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington. The bloc accepted Tehran’s response, which it deemed to be “reasonable.”

It took the United States several weeks to respond to Iran’s remarks.

The United States’ excessive demands and lack of political will have so far prevented an agreement to be reached in the talks.
