Forces loyal to Ali Abdullah Saleh’s regime killed at least 20 people in the Yemeni capital.

On Saturday, fighting broke out between an army unit, joined by allied tribal fighters, and Saleh loyalists in the Hassaba neighborhood of Sana’a, the Associated Press reported.

Three civilians and five troops from the army unit, led by Major General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, were among the dead. Seven tribal fighters and five government troops were also killed.

On Friday, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution urging Saleh to immediately accept a power transfer deal.

Hundreds of thousands of people have turned out for regular demonstrations in Yemen’s major cities since January, calling for an end to corruption and unemployment and demanding the ouster of Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The protesters also say Saleh should be tried for the crimes he has committed against the people of Yemen.

They also say Saleh should be tried for the brutal crackdown on popular demonstrations, which has left hundreds peaceful protesters dead and many more injured.
