Four Bulgarian soldiers injured in Afghanistan

At least four Bulgarian soldiers have been injured in a rocket attack at a major international military base in southern Afghanistan.

Officials told Press TV on Monday that the strike occurred outside the city of Kandahar about 300 meters from the place in which Bulgarian Defense Minister Nikolai Mladenov was staying.

Mladenov, who was visiting the war-torn country, was the target of the attack but he escaped unhurt, our correspondent added.

Bulgarian military authorities, however, rejected the idea that the minister was the target of the attack.

The official had been on a five-day visit to the Bulgarian contingent in Afghanistan in one of his last major duties as defense minister.

Earlier in the day, Mladenov met the 270-member Bulgarian deployment in Kandahar.

Meanwhile, NATO announced that four Romanians were also injured in the strike.
