98.2 % of Iranians voted for Islamic Republic 35 years ago

35 years ago on this day Islamic Republic of Iran was created by people’s votes. On March 30 and 31st ninety eight point two percent of Iranians voted yes to create the Islamic Republic of Iran in a referendum and the results were officially announced on April first. Iranian revolution had already become victorious on February 11th, 1979 and peoples’ vote being announced on April first manifested the power of a republic calling for Islamic laws and regulations being implemented in the country. The referendum anniversary is called “Islamic Republic Day’ in Iran and is celebrated throughout the country.
Iranians say what the referendum and the elections after that mean to them. All Iranian officials regardless of their position are elected directly or indirectly by the people.
