G15 summit begins work in Tehran

The 32nd meeting of the foreign ministers of the Group of 15 has kicked off at the Iranian Foreign Ministry in the capital, Tehran.

In his opening speech, Iranian Foreign Minster Manouchehr Mottaki stressed the importance of stepping up cooperation between G15 members in order to establish a new approach in the world that is based on justice-seeking and serves the interests of all.

“The most important reason behind the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G15 was to free the third world from the dominance of imperialistic countries,” he added.

The Group of 15 was established at the 9th meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade in September 1989, with the aim of promoting growth and prosperity in member states.

Iran took over the chairmanship of the 18-member Group of 15 in Cuba in 2006. Sri Lanka will be the next chairman of the Group.

Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Nigeria, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Venezuela and Zimbabwe are the other members of the Group of 15.
