Larijani: Iran Strongly Supports Restoration of Peace, Security in Syria

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with Syrian Agriculture Minister Subhi Ahmad al-Abdallah underscored Tehran’s enthusiasm for the further development of ties and cooperation with Damascus, and said Iran strongly supports revival of peace and security in the Muslim country.

During the meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, Larijani praised the exemplary resistance of the Syrian people and government against the unprecedented foreign pressure, and said, “The Iranian Islamic Parliament supports any move and activity aimed at the expansion and further strengthening of bilateral political, economic and commercial ties with Syria, aimed at assisting the Syrian brother nation.”

Larijani said that the ongoing crisis in Syria is the result of oppressor powers’ plots under the banner of seeking democracy, adding, “The Islamic Republic of Iran believes the Syrian crisis can be solved merely in the course of holding frank and real dialogue between the Syrian Government and the Syrian opposition forces.”

The Iranian Parliament speaker emphasized the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic of Iran officials’ strong support for restoration of security and stability in Syrian, and said, “It is not possible to establish peace and stability in Syria resorting to weapons and military facilities, while a political compromise inclusive of the entire Syrian groups aimed at pursuing the real reforms can lead to the establishment of peace and Stability there.”

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
