Gazans face numerous challenges during the winter season

A spokesman for Gaza Municipality has reported that residents of the Gaza Strip are enduring dire circumstances as a result of extensive damage to the city’s infrastructure.

In a recent interview with Mehr News Agency, Hosni Muhanna provided detailed insights into the current conditions in Gaza, with a focus on the challenges faced during winter. This follows the effects of a 15-month conflict initiated by the Israeli forces against the largely unprotected population in the region.

According to reports, over 70% of the residential buildings in Gaza have suffered significant or complete damage, underscoring the extensive destruction in the region.

According to reports, certain residential units have become uninhabitable, leading to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian families who have been left homeless.

Muhanna reported that although there is an urgent need for reconstruction, the efforts to transport equipment and machinery into the Gaza Strip have faced significant obstacles.

According to the terms of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli government, crucial equipment was expected to be delivered to Gaza, he stated.

The spokesperson for the Gaza Municipality has called for immediate measures to facilitate the entry of crucial equipment and materials, necessary to deliver humanitarian aid to the region.

He further stated that the water supply infrastructure in Gaza has suffered significant damage.

According to Muhanna, Israel has not only targeted hospitals but has also demolished numerous mosques, schools, and markets within the Gaza Strip.

Gaza’s healthcare facilities are reportedly operating at maximum capacity, with officials highlighting a critical shortage of medicines, medical equipment, and adequate infrastructure.

As winter approaches, bringing with it harsh weather conditions, thousands of Palestinian families find themselves residing in tents that offer insufficient protection against the winter chill, he emphasized.

The circumstances are profoundly challenging, according to Muhanna, who noted that there is a critical shortage of blankets, clothing, and heating devices affecting people.

He stated that Gazans are currently facing a surge in diseases, such as respiratory, gastrointestinal, and dermatological ailments, due to harsh living conditions. This situation is unfolding at a time when there is a significant shortage of adequate healthcare services and facilities.
