Germany hails IAEA report on Iran

Germany has welcomed the latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Iran’s nuclear energy program.

According to IRNA, German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer on Monday described as significant Tehran’s compliance with the IAEA regulations, saying the cooperation can help the progress of nuclear talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – China, Russia, France, Britain and the United States – plus Germany.

In a quarterly report on Friday, the IAEA said that Iran has been complying with the terms of an interim agreement reached between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 on the Iranian nuclear energy program.

Iran and the six world powers clinched the landmark interim deal in the Swiss city of Geneva on November 24, 2013, to pave the way for the full resolution of the dispute over Iran’s nuclear energy program. The deal went into force on January 20.

The UN nuclear agency said that Iran has cut its stockpile of 20-percent enriched uranium by more than 80 percent under the interim pact.

Schaefer said that the two negotiating sides are doing their best to reach a final agreement by the July 20 deadline.

He expressed hope that any ambiguities over the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program would be removed.

In its Friday report, the IAEA also said that transparency measures “have been implemented by Iran as planned.”
