The Syrian Army and the National Defense Forces (NDF) continued their rapid advances against the militant groups in the mountainous regions of the coastal province of Lattakia and captured a new strategic height near the border with Turkey, provincial sources said Tuesday.

“The pro-government forces drove back the militant groups from their positions near the Height 1044 and won back the height and its surroundings,” the sources said.

“Scores of the militants were killed or wounded and their military grid sustained heavy damage in the liberating operation of the height near border with Turkey,” the sources added.

Military analysts believe that the eye-catching victories of the pro-government forces against the militant groups in the mountainous regions of Lattakia in winter time are indebted to the strong will of the Syrian soldiers, the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Hezbollah fighters to route out militancy and terrorism in the country.

Earlier reports said that the Syrian army alongside the country’s popular forces continued to advance against the militant groups in the mountainous regions of the coastal province of Lattakia and won back a key height near the border with Turkey.

“The Syrian army, the NDF and other popular forces struck the defense lines of al-Nusra Front and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) at the village of Katf al-Alamah in Kurdish Mountains, killed 18 militants and destroyed two mounted machinegun turrets,” the sources said.

“Following a long 6 hour battle, the Syrian army troops and their allies finally broke through the terrorists’ defense lines and imposed full control over Katf Al-Alamah and its surrounding hilltops,” the sources added.

The village of Katf al-Alamah is situated just North of the recently captured village of Katf al-Harami and West of the contested town of Kabani.
