Iraqi MPs call for urgent meeting to expel US troops

An Iraqi lawmaker has called for an urgent meeting of parliament with the presence of Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani to discuss the expulsion of American forces from the country.

Saud Al-Saadi, the head of the Iraqi parliament’s rights faction issued the call following a US drone strike on a car in the east of Baghdad.

“We ask the interim parliament speaker to hold an urgent meeting with the presence of the Prime Minister to accelerate the expulsion of American occupying forces to prevent repeated US attacks in Iraq and targeting of the commanders of the Popular Mobilization Forces”, he was quoted by Iraq’s Al-Maloomah website.

Faleh al-Khazali, another member of the Iraqi parliament called lawmakers must expel the Americans and their embassy from Iraq, adding that Prime Minister Al-Sudani is also responsible in this regard.

According to media reports, a car in eastern Baghdad was targeted by a US drone attack that left three occupants dead, potentially two senior members of the Islamic Resistance.

Witnesses said identification cards found near the charred vehicle identified them as Arkan al-Elayawi and Abu Bakir al-Saadi but their assassinations have not been officially confirmed.
