Syrian minister of information Omran al-Zou’bi has said the Syrian government is keen for a successful outcome in Geneva 2 peace conference, affirming that Syria does not open dialogue with terrorists or anyone carrying a weapons against the government.
He reiterated that the main goal of participating in the international conference is to stop terrorism. Al-Zou’bi further described groups such as the so called Syrian National Coalition- the main opposition faction outside the country as not representative of the Syrian people. The Minister expressed his country’s willingness for Iran to take part in the conference, stressing that any outcome of the talks wheather Iran participate or not does not undermine its importance as a major power in the region. Elswhere, in Damascus also heads of Syrian tribes held a press conference saying only the Syrian government represents them in Geneva 2. They also asserted that Syrians alone are capable of finding a way out of the crisis, rejecting foreign intervention.” Meanwhile, on the ground clashes on Syrian territories intensified as army units fought with Qaeda linked groups, Free Syrian Army brigades and Islamists. Aleppo, Idlib, Raqqa and Deir el-Zour cities have turned into a bloodbath proving the prospect of a peaceful resolution of the crisis rather more elusive. “The Syrian government’s policy remains steadfast with two priorities, fighting terrorism and reaching a political solution agreed by the Syrians. This as foreign sponsored opposition remains divided, having no real influence over armed terrorists fighting on ground.”
