Hamas describes killing of 12,000 women in Gaza by Israeli forces as a ‘stain on humanity’

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Palestinian resistance organization Hamas has strongly criticized Israel, denouncing the deaths of over 12,000 Palestinian women in the Gaza region. Hamas labeled these fatalities as a "stain on humanity," highlighting the ongoing tensions and humanitarian concerns in the area.

In a statement released on Saturday, Hamas asserted that the deaths of 12,000 women, the wounding and detainment of numerous individuals, and the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands in Gaza represent a profound affront to human dignity.

Reports indicate that female Palestinian detainees are experiencing psychological and physical abuse, which is described as a clear breach of international norms and conventions.

Hamas has asserted that the hardships faced by these women highlight the “double standards” exhibited by Western nations, particularly the United States, in their approach to addressing the issue of Palestinian abductees.

In a recent announcement, Salama Maarouf, head of the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip, reported that 12,316 women have lost their lives as a result of ongoing military actions by Israel in the region, which he labeled as genocidal.

Maarouf stated that International Women’s Day coincides with the ongoing Israeli blockade and the restriction of humanitarian aid, leaving women in dire humanitarian situations and facing severe conditions of hunger and dehydration.

According to an official report from the Gaza authorities, the recent Israeli attacks have resulted in 2,000 women and girls suffering permanent disabilities, primarily due to amputations.

Furthermore, statistics reveal that 13,901 women have been widowed, with at least 17,000 mothers grieving the loss of their children. Additionally, more than 50,000 pregnant women have suffered the tragic loss of their unborn babies.

Amid support from the United States and its Western allies, Israel initiated military operations against Gaza in early October 2023. This escalation followed the execution of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood by Hamas and other Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza, which was a reaction to Israel’s longstanding policies towards Palestinians.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in the tragic loss of 48,446 Palestinian lives, predominantly affecting women and children, while leaving 111,852 individuals injured.

On January 19, a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement was implemented in Gaza, effectively bringing a halt to Israel’s military operations in the region.
