Iranian defense minister due in Russia for security conference

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan is planning to visit Russia following an invitation by his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu to take part in an international security conference.
Dehqan is scheduled to travel to Russia within days to participate in the third Moscow International Security Conference, Mehr news agency reported on Tuesday.
The conference, which is organized by the Russian Defense Ministry, will take place on May 23-24.
Representatives from over fifty regional and international countries and organizations will take part in the two-day conference.
The Iranian defense minister is expected to deliver a speech at the conference and elaborate on the Islamic Republic’s stance on international security and other related issues.
Earlier in October 2013, Dehqan underlined the necessity for the enhancement of defense cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.
He said the further expansion of defense cooperation between Iran and Russia plays a major role in maintaining regional and global security.
In January 2013, Tehran and Moscow signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to increase security cooperation between the two countries.
