Iran says it has never had any involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Iran has stated that it has not been involved in the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and has reiterated its appeal for dialogue to resolve the situation.

Nasser Kan’ani, the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, commented on Sunday following allegations made by US media the previous day. These reports, based on unnamed sources, claimed that Iran had supplied Russia with short-range ballistic missiles.

Kan’ani emphasized that Tehran’s fundamental stance on the Ukraine crisis remains “unchanged.” He dismissed allegations regarding the transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia as “completely baseless,” suggesting these claims align with the political agendas of certain Western nations.

“Reiterating its stance, the Islamic Republic remains firmly against warfare and advocates for a political resolution to the disputes between Russia and Ukraine to bring an end to the hostilities,” he stated.

“From the outset of the Ukraine crisis, Iran has remained uninvolved in the military conflict and its ongoing hostilities, consistently advocating for a political resolution and direct negotiations to bring the fighting to an end.”

In February 2022, Russia initiated what it termed a special military operation in Ukraine, partly to prevent the eastward expansion of NATO. Russia had previously warned that the US-led alliance was taking an “aggressive stance” towards Moscow.

Iran has continued to uphold its stance of neutrality in the conflict.

Nonetheless, the United States and its Western partners have consistently asserted that Iran is providing weaponry to Russia for active deployment in the conflict in Ukraine.

Iran has firmly denied the baseless allegations, accusing Western nations of intensifying the conflict by providing sophisticated arms to Kiev.

Russia has cautioned that the ongoing supply of Western weaponry to Ukraine is extending the duration of the conflict.
